“Low-Cost” Custom-Made Orthoses

From 01 January - 31 December 2025, “low-cost” custom-made orthoses are available to current private patients with private health insurance that covers podiatry and orthotic therapy.

To qualify for “LOW-COST” custom-made orthoses, you must meet the following terms and conditions:

  1. You must be a current patient at Blackwood Podiatry.

  2. If your current orthotic script is over 12 months old, an orthotic review, an updated biomechanical assessment and new scans (or casts) are required before new devices can be prescribed.

  3. Your health fund must pay a minimum $430 rebate for the devices (item numbers F221). If your private health insurer does not meet the minimum rebate, you will pay an out-of-pocket expense when you receive your new orthoses to meet the minimum $430 cost.

  4. All consultations with the podiatrist - including follow up appointments - will attract the usual consultation fee to cover the podiatrist's time. It is the biomechanical assessment, the scans/casts used to manufacture the orthoses and the devices themselves that are either "gap-free" or "low-cost". Our podiatry team can provide you with a quote for any out-of-pocket expenses.

No private health insurance? You won't miss out! We are pleased to offer a discount on the cost of the biomechanical assessment, 3-D scans, and orthoses to current private patients without private health insurance. Please speak to our podiatry team for a quote.

The “Low Cost” Custom-Made Orthoses offer does not apply to patients whose podiatry care is funded by a third party. This includes the Department of Veteran's Affairs, National Disability Insurance Scheme, My Aged Care, Public Trustee, Families SA, and all insurance case patients. In these cases, the applicable fee schedule applies.
