Foot Health Week 2020: Tradies

Footwear is an important tool for your job!

One of the most common questions we are asked from Tradies, is “what type of work boot are best for my feet?”

The primary function of work books is to protect your feet and ankles - but they also need to fit well to provide stability and support while you do your job.

So how do you know if shoes are fitted correctly?

Clue 1: do you have foot pain?  If you are experiencing any pain, then you should see a podiatrist to find out if your work boots are causing any issues. Don't ignore foot pain!

Clue 2: Is there room at the end of the shoe? There should be a whole thumb’s width from the end of your longest toe (which isn’t always your big toe!) to the end of the shoe. Remember that most people have one foot bigger than the other - so make sure that you always fit the bigger foot.

Clue 3: Are you getting any rubbing, blisters, corns and/or callus? If so, then your work boots may be contributing to the development of these problems and you should see a podiatrist for a footwear assessment.
